Lesson Plans
Lesson plans are useful for any teacher who wants variety, an easy
adaptation to a lesson you currently have or a quick guide for a substitute
teacher. I picked lesson plan sites that
would be best for an art class, grades 5-8.
They are ranked by usefulness and quality.
#1 http://www.kinderart.com/index.html - This is an exceptional site for an art teacher! They boast that they have more art lessons any other website and I believe it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the lesson plans. Lesson plans are easy found in alapbetical order or by the type of art. Lessons are fun, colorful and creative. The “glue fish”, http://www.kinderart.com/drawing/gluefish.shtml, was one of my favorite lessons.
#2 http://www.askeric.org/cgi-bin/lessons.cgi/Arts//Visual_Arts
I found this site very well organized and easy to read. There is a variety of lesson plans for all ages. Lesson plans are detailed and fun. I liked the comic strip lesson, http://www.askeric.org/cgi-bin/printlessons.cgi/Virtual/Lessons/Arts//Visual_Arts/ARA0005.html, because it incorporated many subjects – Art, Technology and English. A unique feature to this site is the “latest” lesson plan feature.
#3 http://www.lessonplanspage.com/Art.htm
This site’s lesson plans are organized by grade level and then type of art. It features a section that shows “recent additions” the newest lesson plans posted. I found that this site has the best tie-in to other subject areas and art combined in a lesson.
#4 http://www.sanford-artedventures.com/teach/teach.html
This site is good for the art classes K-12. Lesson plans are tied to the “National Visual Art Standards”. Lesson plans are created in a step-by-step format and visual references are provided. As a teacher resource there are technique demonstrations and featured artists.
#5 The honor of the number five position was split
among three sites. I liked these sites
content, but the sites themselves and some lesson plans were not to the
standards of the above four.
http://www.teachers.net/cgi-bin/lessons/sort.cgi?searchterm=art
This site has good art lesson plans, but lesson plans are not in any particular order - alphabetical or art style. They are labeled for grade appropriation.
http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/middle/middlelessons.html
This site is an art based, middle school level, lesson plans. It is easy to follow and basic information is provided. Lessons are creative, but not fully developed. This is a great site for a teacher to modify and create their own personality to the lesson plans provided.
http://www.pacificnet.net/~mandel/TheArts.html
I liked both the “tissue mural” and the “post cards from my summer vacation” lesson plans, but this site is a little hard to follow. This teacher based site of submitted art projects does not have the organizational properties that many other sites have. You must scroll through all the lessons to find the one you like vs. having a table of contents.
Have fun with your lesson!
