Newsletters
As a useful Internet Tool
I found my initial search for newsletters quite
interesting. The topic I searched for
was art education. Quite often the sites
I visited wanted a paid subscription (I was looking for free
subscriptions!). The first acceptable
site I came across I almost passed by.
It is called ArtTalk. The reason I almost did not use it was
because it is heavy with advertising.
However, sometimes advertising can be a good thing. It can keep you up-to-date on the latest
tools, materials, etc. and also how to obtain samples and catalogs look at it
as a resource! The newsletter also has useful and interesting
articles on topics such as featured artists and different art techniques. It also has a listing of art galleries, art
organizations, art search engines, art rings and other useful information.
The next newsletter that I subscribed to and
enjoyed reviewing was I Love That Teaching Idea. It had great lesson plan ideas for various
grade levels. It also has a section
specifically for art, holidays, substitutes, classroom management, all the things I need to think about as a new teacher. The site was well organized and I enjoyed
reading some of the ideas and found that they were useful. For example, under the substitute section, it
suggested a list of questions that substitutes could use as time fillers if
needed. This way it keeps the class
engaged. As a teacher, I could prepare a
substitute sheet with some handy tips to help the substitute because subbing
is not easy!
