Albert Bierstadt: Looking Down Yosimite Valley, CaliforniaArt Styles

Overview:

Art movements take place over a certain time period.  What might the next art movement be?

This lesson will allow you to explore different possibilities and techniques.

Review the following web links and study the styles of the various artists and movements.

Assignment:

After reviewing the site, pick one of the still life drawings in the placed in the middle of the room.  How would you interpret the still life if you were:

                                                1)         minimalist

                                                2)         Pop Art

                                                3)         Hudson School

                                                4)         Realism

                                                5)         Your own style!

Instructions:

1.         In your art book, label one page each:  minimalism, pop art, Hudson school, realism, my style.

2.         Complete the web link activity.

3.         I have three tables placed around the room with objects on them.  Pick a set of objects you would like to draw - feel free to move around to see which you         would like to draw.

4.         Draw the still life in your art book in the manner of the movement.

5.         On the back of each page, write two characteristics of the movement that you incorporated into your drawing.

6.         On the last page, create what you envision the next art movement to be – your movement!  Express yourself!

I will review your sketchbooks at the end of the week.
