Leonardo DaVinci

portrait of Leonardo

Introduction:

Leonardo Davinci can be called one of the finest artists of all times.  Besides art, he excelled in many other areas too.  He went against the grain of many of his time – a strict vegetarian and lover of animals, he loved peace but designed weapons, and he was left handed – not a good idea during this time period!

Instructions:

In this exercise, you will get to explore Leonardo’s world.  Go to the following website and look around.

http://www.mos.org/sln/Leonardo

Why did Leonardo choose to draw left-handed?  How many siblings did he have?  What was he like?

Assignment:

After exploring the site, click on to the What, Where and When button.  It will take you to a map.  Clip onto the various cities in Italy that DaVinci where DaVinci created his works.  Write down each city as a header and list bullet points underneath of his major accomplishments in each of these cities.

Follow-up:

Take your notes and compare his accomplishments in different cities.  How did his experiences in these cities help him with his artwork?  For example, he used meat from a butcher shop to draw details of the heart.

Your response should be at least one page long, no longer than two.

When you have completed this assignment, place it in the in-box.
If you finish early, explore some of the other areas on the website.
