                                                            Claude Monet

Claude Monet was one of the leading artists of the mid-to late 1800-s through the early 1900’s.  This exercise will allow you to practice researching artists on-line, and give you an overview of Monet and his works.  We will be exploring Monet in further detail during the following week.

Please visit the Web Museum below and answer the five questions.  Copies of the questions can be found in the blue box located on the table in front of my desk.

Questions:

Where was Monet born?

What was the name of the style of art that Monet favored?

Name three artists he formed the impressionist group with.

How did the group get their name?

Later in life, what did Monet have done so he could work on his large canvasses?

Follow-up activity:

Take a look through his paintings.  Pick a painting that strikes you in some way – you really like it, think it is unusual or Print a copy of the picture.

When you return to your seat, glue the picture in your art-book and write a description of how you feel about the painting.  Use descriptions of technique, color, value, etc.

I will review your art-books and the assignment when I collect them next Friday.
