The Harlem Renaissance refers to a
period in our country’s history in which African-American artists, writers and
musicians were flourishing. The period
began in a section of New York called Harlem in the early years of the 1900’s
and continued until 1940. Its influence
continues today. One of the most
well-known writers of the period was Langston Hughes.
