“Opening night for earnest!”

Process

Your group needs to decide who is going to take each job assignment.

There are three assignments necessary for this publication:

1.  Arts & Entertainment Reporter

This reporter is responsible for reviewing and critiquing the play “The Importance of Being Earnest”. Include reactions from the audience and an interview with Oscar Wilde.  Some questions to consider: What kind of people might have attended the play? What famous literary persons might have attended the play that evening in 1895?  What might have been their reactions? What themes and literary devices were included in the play? What was your reaction to the actors and actresses? What might have been Oscar’s reactions to the evening?    (click here for good resources)

 2. Layout Design & Copy Editor

This coworker will be responsible for the design of the magazine cover, the table

of contents, and the editing of the article. The editor will need to use the

resources page to get ideas for the design of the magazine.

3.               Wilde’s Biographer

This reporter is responsible for a detailed biography of Wilde’s life. A biographer must also be very knowledgeable about the historical period in which the person lives. Click here for some good resources to use when researching the historical period of Victorian England.

Each assignment must include at least 2 appropriate graphics.  Discuss with your coworkers how your publication can best be produced.  Be sure to include an original title of the magazine and the article. You will be turning in a rough draft. Your final publication does not have to be professionally bound (although you can take it to a copy store) as long as it is bound.  Be creative about this!  You will give a short presentation of your magazine to the class upon completion.  Each coworker will present his/her own work.
