ALLEGORY & SYMBOLISM

 

 

 

 

For today’s lesson we will be exploring the literary terms “allegory” and “symbolism” in Orwell’s Animal Farm

Read the information provided in this site and then click on the link “symbolism” in the left margin and read that as well.

 

Assignment

 

1.      Write down your understanding of “allegory” and “symbolism” in your journal.

2.      On a piece of paper to turn in make 2 headings.  One for “Allegory” and one for “Symbolism”.  Under each please provide examples from the story of each.  You will need to site the chapter, paragraph, and page number next to your example.

3.  Click on the link “Boxer” that is found on the website.  Your assignment is to choose one of these characters and to write your own chapter (1-2 typed pages) which elaborates on your character.  You will need to provide and allegorical meaning to this character- if it already has on develop it further!  Also you will need to add symbols in your chapter that would help develop the allegorical meaning of your character.  This will be handed in and attched to your list in #2.
