Civil War

The Civil War is one of the darkest conflicts in our nations history. It was a time of not only horrible suffering and massive lives lost but political division and secession amongst parties and states. A fun and interesting way to analyze history is to look at political cartoons from the time period. Students will visit the following site and analyze the theme of the following cartoon.

Students will visit the above site and write a one-page summary of what is being depicted in the following political cartoon about the Emancipation Proclamation. Keep the following things in mind when writing your response.

a) who is being depicted in the picture

b) what are they doing and why?

c) are the people in the picture shown in a negative or positive way?
