The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award

MD flag

Earlier today we read the book George Washington's Teeth by D. Chandra and M. Comora.  It is just one of the many excellent books nominated for the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award.  We will be reading a variety of the books nominated for the award this year.  Then, at the end of the year, we will vote for our favorites.  In May we will discover whether our favorites become the books that win the award.

The Black-Eyed Susan Award is presented by MEMO (Maryland Educational Media Organization) each year to the book that receives the most votes by students from all over Maryland.  Using the MEMO website you will read about the award and record the following information in yourReader's Journal.  Title your page "Black-Eyed Susan Award."

DIRECTIONS:  Visit http://mdedmedia.org/besall.html.  Read through the list of subtopics and choose the ones that you think will contain the information you need.

1.  According to MEMO, what is the purpose of this award?

2.  List the four book categories for which the award is presented.

3.  What two books won the award the first year it was ever presented?

4.  We will be going to the media center soon.  Please write down the title and author of at least three books nominated for this school year that you would be interested in checking out.

* REMINDER:  Bring your Reader's Journal to the media center on your scheduled day.   : )
