Elective #1: Games

Online Games

My experience of the online gaming world took place at games.yahoo.com and was quite interesting. The first game I played called Pyramids is a card game where you have to clear the board of cards by matching the given card with a higher or lower card with the goal of clearing the board. There are other players playing at the same time and you can view how many points they have scored and compare it to your score. I didn’t get very far in my ranking with the four or five games that I played because there are so many people who had been playing for hours when I had only been playing for like 15 minutes. It was a pretty easy game and it is very addictive I almost forgot that I was supposed to be doing a homework assignment. There is also a place for players to chat while playing the game but I chose not to join in the conversation because it was not really a topic that I was interested in. Most of the time I was playing the other players were talking about their smoking habits and how they were supposed to be quitting. This is not really something that I would want a child to be viewing.

Another game that I played was called Bounce Out. This game was a little more enjoyable because it is an individual game and there is not a conversation going on that I am distracted by. The purpose is to complete the level by putting bouncy balls in sets of three. It is pretty easy to begin with but then as you complete more and more levels you have less time and more balls to match. The sound effects that go along with this game are pretty fun to listen to because it sounds like someone is actually bouncing a ball. I do believe that no matter what game is being played a child should be supervised or only allowed to play the games intended for children.
