Lesson Plans - School Counselor

I have visited websites containing lesson plans which might be useful for a school counselor.  Listed below are my favorites, along with notes about their content.

Acceptance/Multiculturalism

Peace Corps World Wise Schools - This website contains great lessons for grades 3-5, 6-9 and 10-12.  The three general areas covered are:  defining culture; developing global perspectives, and challenging assumptions.  At the elementary level, that includes activities called "Stereotype busting" and "The Blind Man and the Elephant." http://www.peacecorps.gov/wws/guides/looking/contents.html#grade35

Multicultural Lesson Plans & Resources - This website was created by Edmund Sass, Professor of Education at the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University and was last updated 9/17/01.  It lists links with lesson plans useful for teaching multiculturalism at all grade levels.  Here you can find links under the headings "Collections of Multicultural Lesson Plans", "Teaching Tolerance", as well as listings for Hispanics, African-Americans, Civil Rights, Asian Americans, Native Americans, Jewish Americans, Russian Americans and Arab Americans/Moslems.  Unfortunately, the annotations don't always give the grade level for the lesson plans, and many of these pages are geared toward high school teachers, but I found some great elementary sites here as well! http://www.cloudnet.com/%7Eedrbsass/edmulticult.htm

Multicultural Passport - This website was created by Jefferson County Public Schools (Jeffco) in Golden, Colorado.  It includes not  only multicultural lesson plans for elementary and middle school students, but also pages of links and activities dealing with different ethnicities and global regions, topics in equity, and multiculturalism in content areas.  I found some great resources here, especially enjoying  those with bibliographies of books to use with students. http://jeffcoweb.jeffco.k12.co.us/passport/index.html

Character Education Lesson Plans

North Carolina Public Schools.org - Character Education Lesson Plans  At this site, character education lessons in various subject areas are presented.  There are not many specifically for counselors, but this might be good to refer teachers to.  http://www.ncpublicschools.org/nccep/lp/

Character Counts! - This part of the CC! website shares a few lesson plans at each grade level, taken from the book "Good Ideas to Help Young People Develop Good Character".  The lesson plans are changed every two weeks, so new lesson plans are often forthcoming.  These are categorized by age level.  http://www.charactercounts.org/ideas/ideatoc.htm

Polk School District - At this site, you will find books recommended for teaching different character traits - not lesson plans.  The books are NOT categorized by grade level, but many seem to be elementary level.  http://polk.ga.net/Westside/Charactered.html

General Lesson Plan Sites

Ask Eric Lesson Plans - At this website, you can designate what grade level(s) you want lesson plans for and search by keywords or subject area.  I found a lot of good links for counselors when searching these keywords:  friendship, character education, feelings.  http://www.askeric.org/Virtual/Lessons/

Teachers.net Lesson Bank - This website has a mixed bag of lessons, but I did find some gems here.  You can search by keyword OR by grade level, but not both.  http://teachers.net/lessons/
