Web Drop-In Activity

Internet Safety for Kids

Everybody knows that the Internet can be a wonderland of information, communication, games and shopping!  However, because it is sometimes just you sitting in front of your computer alone with no adult around, you have to be VERY careful to use the Internet with care and caution.  In fact, adults have to be just as careful as kids do!

During this activity, you will be asked to visit two websites, read some pages, take an online quiz, complete a worksheet, and invite your parents to learn about online safety, too!

SafeKids.Com and SafeTeens.Com are two websites that are devoted to helping kids, their parents and teachers learn about online safety.

Are you ready?  Click HERE to print a copy of the worksheet you'll need, and get ready to learn to be cyber-safe!!

First, read SafeKids' Rules for Online Safety.

Disney is also concerned about keeping kids safe on the internet.  They have rules for safety -

And also rules on CyberNetiquette - ways to be courteous and polite online

Now that you have read some rules about how to stay safe online, it's time to test your cybersafety sense!  You can choose to do either of the quizzes below - or learn even more by doing both!

Disney offers a fun visit to Surf Swell Island - Adventures in Internet Safety.  Visit Privacy Falls, Virus Cave and the Temple of Tact!

Now that you've gotten smart about online safety and manners - it's time to share your knowledge with your parents.  Yes - go get your parents and get them to click and read a little, too!  Here are some pages just for them:

Your family needs to work together to have fun AND be safe online.  While your parents are there with you, click button to find Family Contracts for Online Safety.  Print the Kids' Pledge and the Parents' Pledge, sign them, and post them near your computer.

STAY SAFE ONLINE!!
