The Process

1.  First you'll be assigned to a team of three students.

2.  Each team member will examine web sites individually.  Each member should also print a copy of the worksheet and take individual notes while you work online.  Get the worksheet now!

3.  Each one of you should visit at least one of the websites below.  You must take one of the interest inventories.  They will provide you with ideas of careers that might match your interests and personality types.  Be sure to complete worksheet as you go.

Career Zone - http://www.nycareerzone.org/index.jsp

Career Interests Game - http://career.missouri.edu/holland/index.html

Career Key - http://www.careerkey.org/english/you/your_choice.html

Career Path - http://gilligan.esu7.k12.ne.us/~esu7web/esu/projects/career/career.html

Keirsey Temperament Sorter II - This site does NOT provide specific occupation information.  Do NOT sign up to purchase a detailed report, just use the free online survey. http://www.advisorteam.com/user/ktsintro1.asp

4.  Next, you will choose two occupations/careers to investigate more fully.  Choose the two careers you are most interested in, or two you are not familiar with.  Look at the worksheet to see what specific information you need to gather.

5.  You will have to create a graphic organizer to collect information on these two careers yourself. You may work alone or with your team members to create the graphic organizer.  It can be as simple as a clearly labeled chart.

6.  You should use at least two different sources to investigate each occupation.  You may find specific career information when you take the interest inventory and then you must find additional info at one or more of these sites:

Exploring Occupations - Here is a listing of occupations to explore. http://www.umanitoba.ca/counselling/careers.html

Connecticut College Job Search by Field - Find links to sites about your favorite careers or career fields http://camel2.conncoll.edu/offices/ocs.folder/field2.html

Job Star Central Guides for Specific Careers - You can visit websites by looking under occupation names http://jobstar.org/tools/career/spec-car.cfm

7.  After each team member has completed their research and worksheet, including the graphic organizer, your team should meet together.  Each team member should share the info from their worksheet with his/her team members, taking time to answer any questions your team members may raise.

8.  After everyone in your team has shared their information with each other, begin to plan how to present the information on your career/occupation choices to your class.  Decide what needs to be included, how you will share your information, and divide up the tasks among your team members.  You should create a chart or project which your classmates and teacher can see to capture their attention.
