Drop In Time Capsule

Introduction: 6th Grade Students will review the items from the 1939 World’s Fair time capsule and make a time capsule based on the items of today for future generations.

Information: The Carroll County Board of Education is constructing a new school and would like to incorporate a time capsule in the corner stone of the building. All 6th graders have the opportunity to plan what items should be included. I would like a time capsule from our class to be chosen. After reviewing the 1939 World’s Fair Time Capsule -http://www.nytimes.com/specials/magazine3/1939.html you will design a time capsule for 6th grade students in the year 2102. Incorporated in the time capsule will be a minimum of  (3) items from three of the five categories small articles of common use, textiles and materials, miscellaneous items, an essay in microfilm, newsreel  that were included in the 1939 time capsule.  You can substitute the essay in microfilm with technology items. Include a one-sentence justification for picking a certain item.

Example:

Category                                             Item                Justification on the line

                                                                                                                below the category and item.

Technology Item                                   Digital Camera

The digital camera gives immediate access to pictures that can be refined and sent immediately through the Internet.
