Including Graphics in Your Work

Objective:       You will learn to implement graphics in your work.

 

Introduction:   The Internet is filled with free graphics, icons, and animation. This is an opportunity to put away the scissors and endless searching through books for the best picture. Let you fingers do the typing and you can find the perfect image in minutes.

 

Activity:          You will visit the sites below. On your visit to a minimum of four sites, you will download a picture with the same characteristics, for example (a math cartoon).  After downloading the picture you will include search information, a hotlink, and a paragraph about the best site you used and why.

How to:

 

Many clipart sites provide download instructions for both Mac and PC. Please review the

Download section of the clipart site you visit.  In most projects, to insert a graphic in your

Document: 1) right-click on the graphic 2) copy the image 3) open your document

 4) Edit/Paste to place the graphic. 

 

To insert a graphic into web pages: 1) choose your graphic 2) right-click and then select

Save Image from the menu    3) place the graphic in the proper folder 4) use your web

Authoring software to insert the image 5) upload your image along with your web page. 

 

Remember when saving an image in your word document, save as word and then save as

a web page with 5 letters. htm. When you save as a web page in word your images and all

information in the document is automatically saved in a folder. You will need to transfer

the folder as well as the htm document to be able to view your graphics on your index

page.

Clipart Sites (Here are a few sites but there are more out there all you have to do is look.  There are many sites that give download instructions to assist you in using graphics.

http://www.awesomeclipartforkids.com/generalindex.html Awesome Clipart for Kids is a teacher & family-friendly site with free clipart for your web pages or printable documents. There are links to other clipart sites. 

http://www.google.com Google is a search engine that will allow you to search for images. Images is a part of the search image. Put in a key word or phrase and then review the search results. Click on an image you like and that will take you to the site.

http://www.kidsdomain.com/clip/ Kid’s Domain offers more than 3,000 down loads for PC and Mac for students and teachers. There is no individual picture search it is done through categories.

http://pics.tech4learning.com/pics/index.htm Pics4Learning- This site was designed to supply education with copyright-friendly images to enhance student learning. The searching is easy through specific pictures or by categories. There are links to other graphic sites that are education specific.

http://www.teacherfiles.com/clip_art.htm Teacher Files Clip Art is full of resources, ideas, activities, lesson plans and educational clip art for teachers.  You can search by category or by word. This site has links to other clipart sites

http://www.ncrtec.org/picture.htm The Amazing Picture Machine is an index to graphical resources on the Internet. This site offers lesson ideas and search tips.

Assignment: Review the sites and find a minimum of (4) pictures. Please include hotlinks, and a paragraph on the best site you found.
