Today it is much easier and faster to send an email than to write a letter or call someone. Email is an important form of communication when used correctly. Our sixth grade class will work hard to establish good lines of communication.  It is important to remember a few rules when writing and receiving email:

Email Etiquette

·        Use plain text.

If you use a fancy or unusual font the person that is receiving your email might have difficulty in reading your message.

·        Don’t use special characters.

The computer can read these characters as something else and garble your message.

·        Be cautious with your attachments.

·        Send web pages as text.

·        In an email people can’t see how you are feeling. To express emotion, use:

Asterisks, Capital Letters, Punctuation, White space, and Lower Case Letters.

·        Use spell and grammar check.

This only takes less than a minute and will make a world of difference to the reader.

·        Do not make racial slurs or use ugly language.

·        You are what you write.

What you say, how you write is a reflection of the type of person you are. The words you use today maybe the words you eat tomorrow.

·        Do not open emails unless you recognize the sender.

Not knowing the sender can cause you to open an email that might contain a virus. Do you want your computer to become sick?

·        If you get a “chain email” don’t waste your time.

There is not an email out there that will reap you benefits from passing it on to all of your friends.
