Internet Online Course Module

This was the old way to learn about Current Events, now we can just

check the computer. No more smoke signals!

Objective:

You will be able to use current events to create assignments for your students that will be age and content appropriate.

Introduction:

Our world changes by the minute and it is important to assist students in keeping abreast of world news through current events.  Students are deluged with information from television, newspapers, radio and everyday conversation. It is our job as teachers to help students to understand this information. Current Events affect all areas of education and should be incorporated throughout the curriculum.

Activity:

You will design a topic for your students to research. This research will be done weekly throughout the semester to keep the information current.

Keep in mind your subject area and content. Make sure to link this research back to your overall objectives.  This should not be needless

busy work.

All research will be done online to promote the technology objective in the curriculum.  By setting this assignment up as an online project, the students are assessing additional search skills that will aid in future research projects.

These are some possible sites but there are lots of sites out there. You will want to check the sites that you plan to use to make sure that they are age appropriate. The best thing about this assignment is that students can actually see the world as it changes and possibly learn something in the process.
