Best of Search Engines

Search engines are the easiest way to navigate the wide world of the web!  Below is a compilation of what I think are the “Best of Search Engines.”  I have broken it down into five categories: Meta Search Engines, General Search Engines, News Search Engines, Shopping Search Engines, and Travel Search Engines.  This is aimed to help adults of all ages to be able use the Internet in efficient and convenient manner.

Meta Search Engines

Dogpile – Dogpile is in my opinion the best meta search engine available on the web!  Not only are you able to find just about anything you are looking for, you can also get jokes of the day, maps, weather, and horoscopes!  http://dogpile.com

Mamma - Mamma is a great search engine to find just about anything you are looking for because it searches against a variety of major crawlers, directories and specialty search sites.  Great place to start of your search for information.   http://mamma.com

General Search Engines

Google – Google is by far my favorite general search engine.  I use it on a daily basis for quick and expedient internet searches.  It is also great for searching images.  http://google.com

Yahoo – Yahoo is the second best general search engine available.  Yahoo allows you to search but offers free and easy access to email and news.  http://yahoo.com

News Search Engines

AltaVista News – I admit that when it comes to the news, I hardly ever pick up an actual newspaper.  When I want to find the latest news in top stories, entertainment, health, and sports AltaVista News is the first place I go.

Yahoo News – Yahoo News is a great search engine to use to find local news.  It also has great video and photo highlights that enhance the overall appeal of the search engine.

Shopping Search Engines

MSN Shopping – I’m a huge fan of online shopping and the first place I always go to search for anything is MSN Shopping.  This search engine has multiple categories, weekly specials, and featured stores all in one fantastic place!  http://shopping.msn.com

PriceGrabber – PriceGrabber is another one of my all time favorite shopping search engines.  The feature I like the most about PriceGrabber is the ability to shop by popularity of items.  It also provides merchant ratings and coupons, which can be very helpful one big ticket items.

Travel Search Engines

SideStep – I love to travel and SideStep is the best travel search engine for any of your travel needs.  You can search flights, hotels, activities, and destinations all by the click of your mouse.  I take advantage of the vacation packages that SideStep offers for great deals and amazing vacations!

Orbitz – Orbitz is the best place to compare prices on flights, hotels, cars, and cruises.  They also have great deals and excellent travel guides.
