Filtering

· PRO’s    Filtering was designed and is used to reduce access to inappropriate sites

·             Filtering systems are always upgrading and improving

·             Filtering helps to relieve minds of parents whose children are internet savvy by helping to    protect them from predators on the internet…pornographers, pedophiles, kidnappers ect…

·             The filtering system helps avoid the keyword traps that lure kids (and some adults) into the wrong website.

·             Many filtering systems can be customized to fit the needs of the user.

·             CON’SThere is always someone out there who is creating work arounds to get though filters.

·             Not everything is always filtered out, so teacher or parent supervision is important

·         Children need to learn how to select what items are or aren’t appropriate through the title.

 In case a filter fails

·             The programs scan for KEYWORDS not content

·       Many useful sites might get blocked by a filtering system because of the keyword scanning.. Thus making web searches very frustrating.
