Web Sites for Students:
Strange Matter – This page has all sorts of neat things for students to do and learn about raw materials that make up some of the new inventions we use today. There is an interactive format, which allows students to look at different elements of science. This includes atoms, crystals, elements, and even compounds. There are fun ways to learn about what is inside different materials, how raw materials become other new materials, and how different materials can improve items we already have. This website also includes a “Stuff for Teacher’s” section and a “Stuff for Families” section.

Science Made Simple – This page has answers to many questions students frequently ask such as “Why is the sky blue?” and “Why do leaves change color in autumn?” This site also has a science news section that includes current hot topics in the world of science. The site also shares some simple and easy science projects that students can do themselves at home. With ideas for school science fair projects students can navigate this website very easily and get a lot of great information from it.

Biology Quizzes Activities and Games – This page has a variety of quizzes and assessment tools that students can use when studying topics from class. It ranges from fifth grade through eleventh grade science themes. Teachers can also use this site for ideas for test questions and as a review for students before exams. There is a review button with each question so students can review the material and then answer the questions. Students can also ask for a hint, which is a clue that helps the student answer the question. Once the student is finished with the questions the test can be scored with the correct answers given and a description of why the answer is correct. The student can then answer other questions about the same topic.

NASA Space Place – This kid friendly page has information about all the topics covered in the seventh grade science solar system unit. It is very easy to use and has different categories such as games, projects, cool subjects, and amazing facts. It makes learning the information fun. It focuses on the history of the planets, laws of the universe, space technology, and other aspects of space.

The Nine Planets – This page is an overview of the history of the planets, the mythology of the planets and current information about each planet and its moons. It includes a glossary of terms for the students to look up unknown vocabulary. The site also has other links for students to use for more information about the solar system. There are also a number of appendices about other topics related to the solar system. This site follows along with the curriculum for seventh grade science and will be a great resource for studying and extra research.

Cells Alive! – This page is an interactive site that has information on the structure and function of plant and animal cells and their organelles. The site also has a demonstration of mitosis, the process of cell division. This is a very student friendly web page and follows the structure and function of living things unit in the seventh grade curriculum.

The Magic School Bus – This website, although it looks like it is for very young students, has a lot of information that older students can use. It is very kid friendly, colorful, and easy to use. Teachers will also enjoy this website because it has activities and lessons that can be taught. It has themes that correspond with the middle school science curriculum.

Cool Science for Curious Kids – This website allows students to explore different aspects of life around them. Topics include parts of plants, air junk, critters, and butterflies. Each category has fun activities for students to do at home and is easy to use.

Science Websites for Kids – This website has links for many other science related sites. It also has a variety of information about topics in environmental science. Topics such as ecosystems, energy, air, and water are discussed. The page will be helpful in teaching conservation and being conscious of the environment we live in.

Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium – This site has information on real exhibits that are displayed in the Miami Museum of Science. The site is regularly updated to include new exhibits and information on upcoming exhibits. It includes activities for children to do with their families. With this site always being updated it will be interesting to see new exhibits that correspond with the curriculum be added.

Brain Pop – This site has all types of information for all content areas. Science is the area that I am interested in. The topics under science range from earth science and volcanoes to population growth and nuclear energy. There are many activities that the students can do on their on and places for teachers to look and get ideas for class experiments and activities. This is a fun website that students could spend hours searching and learning new information about many topics. I am actually excited that I found this website to use in the classroom.

Reeko’s Mad Scientist Lab – This site has easy, intermediate, and advanced experiments in astronomy, chemistry, physics, and earth science. The experiments are great to correspond with any science curriculum. From learning why something floats to building your own working volcano this site has step by step instructions of how to do many experiments either with students in class or at home with other family members. This site also has other science resources to get more information about the same experiments described on this site.

National Science Teachers Association – This page is for science teachers. It gives the up to date report on issues involving teachers in science classrooms across the country. It has journal articles to view, resources, and professional information for teachers to access. The website divides into elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and even college so that teachers can get involved with happenings at their specific grade level.

National Education Association – This page is for all teachers in the country regardless of the subject they teach. It has information on joining the NEA, benefits, and articles about current events in teaching. It also has a section for parents and community with extra information about the new standardized tests schools are now taking.

National Association of Biology Teachers – Having a concentration in Biology this site will be helpful to me personally because it has all the updates of what is happening in the biology world today. The site also has resources for biology teachers that will help to make lesson plans and do fun activities with the students to help them learn better. The page has news and events section, a section that informs about conferences and workshops, as well as a publications section with relevant journal articles.
