A Day in Space         

 

Continuing with our solar system unit we will explore a website that has charts and graphs that will teach us some differences between the planets.  Click here to get to the site.  Investigate the site taking special notice of the following three graphs:  The Mass of the Planets, Gravity on the Planets, and A Day on Each of the Planets.  Answer the following questions using the graphs to find the answers:

The Mass of the Planets

1)  What planet has the highest mass?  Estimate the mass of this planet.

2)  List in order the next three heaviest planets and estimate the masses of each.

 

Gravity on the Planets

3)  Which planet has the most gravitational pull?

4)  Which planet(s) have approximately the same amount of gravity as Earth?

5)  Name two other planets that have a similar gravitational pull.

 

A Day on Each of the Planets

6)  What is the definition of a day?

7)  About how many Earth days is one day on the following planets?

       b) Venus

       c) Jupiter

       d) Neptune

       e) Pluto

8)  Which planet has the longest day? The shortest day?
