     IS Title IX FAIR?

I.  What is Title IX?

          a. Please read over the actual Title IX Education Amendment, sections 1681, parts A 1-9, B, and C.

          b. After reading through the document, write a brief paragraph (3-5 sentences) explaining how you interpret and understand Title IX.

II. To Exercise Your Critical Thinking Abilities, Please Do the Following:

          a. There are various parts of Title IX, but we are going to focus on the athletics portion.  Please read Title IX info, a part of site the site that                        concentrates on athletics and is in favor of Title IX.  Feel free to look around the site if you feel inclined.

          b. After reading over the athletics portion of Title IX info, write down 2 good things to come from Title IX and 2 issues you can foresee from it's             implementation.

          c. This is an editorial voicing one's distaste for Title IX.  Please read over it and develop and write a brief paragraph as a reaction.

          d. Now read this speech regarding Title IX, and it descusses some positive aspects and negative ones.  While you are reading, continue to develop                your opinion of the Amendment.

          e. Finally, after reading different opinions of Title IX, write 3 paragraphs:

Paragraphs 1 and 2: Explaining the discrepancy between the proponents and opponents of the amendment.  Make sure you include issues from both sides.

Paragraph 3:  Tell what you think could satisfy both sides of the argument (can you think of a compromise?) and a solution to fix Title IX, and/or where you foresee Title IX in the future.

Great Job!!

Make sure you proofread your paragraphs and make sure everything that is required is included.
