Elective Activity #3
Ten Point List to
Sending an Email

Our fourth grade class will be learning the protocol for
sending an email to another server. Email
is a great means of communication, but there are some things that you need to
know to get the most out of the experience.
The ten point list below will help you to write an email that the
recipient can read with ease.
- Use
meaningful subject lines
- Messages
under twenty-five lines long
- Quote
previous email when responding
- When
sending an email address put your sentence period outside the address or do
not use a period at all (Example – “jsmith@happiness.com.” is
wrong “jsmith@happiness.com” or “<jsmith@happiness.com>.” is right)
- When
using URL address always send it with the “http://” prefix
- If you
are sending URL address make sure you do not have a period at the end of
the address
- When
sending an email it is best not to use italics, bold, or color
- Do not
use quotation marks in your email message
- If you
are sending a long URL address put angle brackets around the URL
Example -< http://www2mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/branton/lesson
plan.html>
- If you
have a large document to send it is best to post it the web and email the
URL instead of the file
