Email Tips For Mrs. Blank’s Sixth Grade Class

There are many ways to use email effectively so that one can successfully communicate. Poor communication through email can cause more problems if delivery is executed incorrectly. Below are helpful tips that will enable one to engage in Internet email with success:
1.) Information about email use:
Research, educate, and understand the full use of email servers and software.
Make sure that the server provides a “Help” link, so that if one needs assistance, questions can be answered.
2.) Know your purpose for emailing:
Set up your email account for a targeted audience. Example: Relatives, or friends
3.) Email accuracy:
Correctly type the address to your recipient
Use the address book software link that allows individuals to create email addresses for easy access.
4.) Outgoing Messages:
When composing one’s messages use a standard font so that your message is
readable. Write each message to the point.
5.) Identify yourself:
Use the subject line of the email message. This will aid in the communication process. Short phrases such as “Please read – Important Information,” or “Class of 2007 Mother of God students” will make it easier for the recipient to respond. Never give out personal information – home address, school name, or telephone number.
6.) Incoming Messages:
When receiving a message be careful not to open it, unless one knows who the
message is from. Many viruses for computers can be spread by opening messages
than may contain attachments. Never open an email that is obscene, belligerent,
or threatening.
7.)
Prioritize
you emails:
Decide what messages one should respond to first
8.) Safety Features:
Individuals should report suspicious kinds of emails to CyberTipLine online.
9.) Create filters or blocks:
Create filters so that incoming emails and spam can be blocked out
10.) Time Out:
One should not spend an excessive amount of time on email.
What can happen if guidelines
are not followed?
Information that is personal could be provided to individuals that are not the intended recipient. These individuals could use this information as a way of stealing a person’s identity. The information can also even endanger one’s safety. Many individuals involved in pornography use the Internet to find victims. Communication between the intended recipients may never be sent to the correct person if email addresses are not typed correctly.
