Safety on the Web

Dear Parents:

We are happy to able to provide for our students the use of computers as a tool to enhance the learning process. The students will be able to access the Internet. This will enable the students to access information for research projects and homework help.

The Internet use at school will be supervised. We have taken measures to block inappropriate material; however we will not be able to block all material. It is necessary for you to speak to your child in discussing your expectations for responsible use on the Internet. The school will review what is expected here.

Please read over the guidelines enclosed as well as the student contract.

If you and your child are willing to accept this responsibility then please sign the contract and return to school.

Guidelines for Acceptable use of Telecommunications

Purpose

Students and staff will be able to access information from the Internet in order to support and enrich the curriculum. Learning how to access this information will also be a goal of this school.

Definition

Daily use of the Internet will aid students in research, find homework help; communicate with teachers, parents, and students.

Internet resource will include:

• Electronic mail communication
• Library catalogs
• Encyclopedias and dictionaries
• World Wide Web

Access is a privilege not a right

• Students are not permitted to access offensive, obscene, or inappropriate language on the computer.
• Students should not respond to any inappropriate material on the Internet.
• Students should not reveal any person information.
• Students will use the network legally. No spreading viruses, violating copyright laws or plagiarizing.
• Students can not make purchases on the Internet.
• Students can not access their own personal email account at school.

Safety Issues

• Students will be supervised while using the Internet.
• Students will be taught to use the computer for academic purposes only.
• Blocks have been loaded in order to help stop inappropriate material.
• Students and parents will agree to sign a contract in order to have access to the Internet.

Consequences of Computer Misuse

• Misuse of Internet violation by student will result in the suspension of

computer use.
