Searching the web is
so much fun but can be very time consuming. These sites are the result of hours
of searching the web.

Shopping Search Engines
Froogle
is organized into 15 product categories that allow you to search for items such
as books, toys, games, electronics, and baby items. It
is an easy to search site because you are given the option of searching by
keyword or by category.

Shopzilla
is a great site for comparison shopping for computers, clothes, jewelry, sports
items, books, videos and so much more.
The site offers the shopper the option of reading reviews of
approximately 70,603 stores. The site
also has a nice feature that tells when the site was updated last. This site is
heaven for the shopaholic.

Kid Safe Search Engines
Easily navigated site developed by the editors of
Children's Software Review that enables users to locate links on various
subjects. The site is really appropriate for children age 3-12. This search
engine does the work by providing topics that might be of interest and providing
a link to a page that lists the sites appropriate for this age group. Two search
engines (Yahooligans and Ask Jeeves) are also available for use if the topic
needed is not available. I really liked this site because it was so kid
friendly.
http://www.littleclickers.com
This
site was designed by librarians and it is awesome. There are 600+ subjects that can be searched.
Also on the site are sound, picture, and search tools. A lesson on how to search the World Wide Web
is also very kid friendly.

Yahooligans! The Web Guide for Kids
This
site is one of the best search engines available for children. The information is
indexed into categories such as music, science, TV, movies, reference. The site has games, videos, and polls.

Government Search Engines
This
site is the official government site of over 20,000 websites. The site is categorized by topic area such as
benefits and grants, health and nutrition, and technology. Information may be
obtained about the
This
site is divided into three groups: executive agencies, independent agencies and
state and local agencies. This search
engine is very thorough and has all of the information on government agencies
that you could ask for. The independent agencies are listed by acronym so it’s
beneficial to have the entire name of the agency before beginning your
search. Overall, it’s a great site for
information about the Census Bureau, the CIA, and White House etc.
Travel Search Engines
This
site is user friendly when you are looking to book flights and hotel
accommodations. The site even lets you
rent cars online, get driving directions and download maps of Europe and
http://www.expedia.com
This
site is very similar to Expedia.com and I would choose either site to book
fares. Reviews of hotels are provided by previous travelers. A nice feature is
the customer care section that answers frequently asked questions. A well
developed help section is also included on the same page. Great site for your travel needs.

News Search Engines
If
news is what you want, Google News has it and more. The site is updated continuously and in real
time and has over 4,500 news sources. This site is well organized. News is put into
business, entertainment, health, sports, and science and tech categories. I
really like the fact that the news is broken down into categories so that you
can get the information quickly. An
interesting fact about the site is that news editors do not gather the news;
it’s completely automated. Wow!
http://news.google.com/?ned=us
This
site is great for world news, US and current events, travel, politics,
technology, and weather. Links to the Paula
Zahn show, Larry King Live, The Situation Room, Nancy Grace, American Room, Lou
Dobbs, and Anderson Cooper 360 are provided at the top of the page. Second to Google News but a
good site nonetheless.
