education newspaperNPR

This site should be included in the curriculum of every student. Very up to date information about education, politics, culture, arts, health, food, and sports.  I am going to be sure to introduce this site to my students and give them time to listen to what’s going on in the world without bias. I hope they will love the site as I do and focus on the book reviews which are a favorite of mine. Great music is also included with the streaming audio.

playing celloClassics for Kids

This is a great site for children to learn about classical music and play games to learn about rhythm and music. The site also highlights instruments and tools of the orchestra and gives short summaries about the instrument.  A narrator will read the name of the instrument and let you listen to what the instrument sounds like. There is also a musical dictionary. The website is very colorful and appealing to the elementary student.  I would recommend this site to the young and old considering taking up an instrument. Very well put together website.

History and Politics Out Loud

This site has audio clips of speeches of historical icons such as Martin Luther King Jr., William Clinton, Winston Churchill, and selected Watergate tapes by Richard Nixon. This site has about 100 speeches but is really lacking with speeches from the 1900-1959. The majority of the speeches were given 1960-1969. Some of the speeches were difficult to hear but what a treasure trove of speeches.

American Rhetoric

This site is dedicated to some of the most significant speeches of the 20th century, over 5,000 speeches, debates, legal proceedings, lectures, and debates. This site also features Hollywood movie speeches that include military, sports oriented, and forensic speeches. The speeches are updated every 3 weeks. I could’ve spent hours perusing this site. A very thorough site.

60s Music Year by Year

What a great site! Since I was born in the 60’s I was thrilled when I could listen to the music from that time. Students can become acquainted with music from this era and hear real music.
