May 17, 2004 marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark decision known as Brown v. Board of Education.
Find out more about this important Supreme Court case and the impact that it has had on public education.

Once you have completed  reading,  answer the following questions in your journal:

1.  Who was Linda Brown and why did she sue the school system?

2.   What is segragation?

3.   What right did the fourteenth amendment of the Constitution guarantee?

4.  What was the Supreme Court's decision and what affect did it have on the public school system
       Now, look at the diagram of how the case moved through the court system.

5.  What other courts heard the case, before it reached the Supreme Court?

Finally, look at the timeline of  civil rights events.
 Name 2 other events, laws or cases that helped to end segregation.
 Write a sentence explaining what the event was and another sentence explaining how it improved school integration.
