In the highest civilization, the book is still the highest delight. He who has once known its satisfactions is provided with a resource against calamity.

My Reflection on Instructional Partnerships

MESA, Genscope

As a media specialist it is extremely important to maintain an easily accessible leadership role. As a media specialist I will participate in activities in and out of school that support our academic goals. It will be through participation in committees and staff development that the media specialist can bring information and tools to their school. The media specialist must then coordinate with staff to build lessons and create new and dynamic resources. As a teacher at Murray Hill, I have been involved in a partnership with Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in leading the MESA program at Murray Hill. As the MESA coordinator I attended numerous meetings each year and then brought that information back to my school to apply both in the classroom and MESA . It was through this coordination that MESA became a very successful program. At Murray Hill, our science team meets regularly within our school and countywide to share knowledge and lessons with other science teachers. I developed a unit for seventh grade genetics based on Genscope, a program written by the National Science Foundation. Additionally I met with my science team and the science curriculum coordinator for Howard County and presented my unit to be shared among other schools. As a media specialist I will continue supporting the flow of knowledge into, out of, and within my school. It will be through this type of collaboration that teachers and students are offered opportunities to succeed academically and emotionally.
