My Reflection on Educational Leadership

MESA, Educational Research, Article Review, Student Service Learning

As a classroom teacher I have found myself looking for answers when students act out in class. Through peer discussions and research I have found that many students are acting out to protect themselves from the discovery that they may not be academically successful. Many of the children who repeatedly act out in class are reading below grade level. This is a topic that we continually address as a seventh grade team during our Kid Talk process. I have continued to investigate this correlation during my masters program at McDaniel College as demonstrated in my educational research paper and article review artifacts. Based on what I learned, I am even more convinced of the importance of literacy in academic success. As a media specialist I can have a greater impact on my community by supporting media literacy standards and encouraging lifelong reading in every student. I will continually seek out knowledge from professional associations and collaborate with teachers to support and improve classroom activities. As a teacher at Murray Hill, I have often been in a position to positively influence educational strategies. As a coordinator for MESA and Student Service Learning Coordinator, I frequently bring information to staff members to facilitate academic success. With continual pressures to increase academic achievement, my role as a media specialist is a crucial role within the school community.
