Follow the following steps to complete the Web Quest.

  1. Bring your writing journal to each group meeting.  Each group member will take notes so everyone has notes to reference to complete the project.
  2. Have a group discussion about what your group thinks a hero is and define your hero with great detail.  (Review in your writing journal the writings projects that you did when we worked on writing with great and supportive detailed.)  The following links will help give ideas to what a hero is:  http://www.siprep.org/eng/totah/CodeHeroDefinition.html

  1. Now your group has to match your definition of a hero to a person.  Your group’s person may be a mother, father, teacher, fireperson, nurse, police officer, President and etc.  The following are links to different kinds of heroes.

http://www.cityonahill.com/motherteresa/-  This is a link to a very famous mother, Mother Theresa.

http://www.hbogucki.staffnet.com/aemes/teaching/students.htm-  This is a link to students’ opinions of a good teacher.

http://www.fdny.net/viewarticle.cfm?articleid=229- An article link about Firefighters.

http://www.ipl.org/div/potus/- A list of all the Presidents with descriptions.

These are just a few examples of heroes.  Search your group’s hero by using different search engines.  ~Remember the lesson we just did on “Surfing the Internet” to do your search. ~

  1. After your group has decided who your group’s hero is the following questions will be needed to be answered.  The entire group does not have to work on each question together.  Look at the questions and discuss who would like to answer what question.  However, you still will need to help group members during their quest by supporting and giving feedback.
    1. Who is your group’s hero and how does s/he fit your group’s definition of a hero?
    2. What is the job role and duties of your group’s hero?
    3. What famous people past or present fill the job role of your hero (i.e. if your group chose the President as a hero then give examples of people who held the title of President)?
    4. Draw a life size picture of your group’s hero. (The Art teacher will supply poster paper)

  1. After each group member completed his or her part for the web quest, it is now time to bring it all together.  Have a group meeting to share information.  After reviewing the research, your group will need to pull all of your information together and create a presentation on your hero.

  1. Now, I want you to reflect on the information that your group researched.  Think about your group’s definition of a hero and the person who was chosen as the hero.  I want you to write two paragraphs about the connection you were able to make with your group’s hero.  When you are finished, please hand your writing into me.  These writings will be included on the Conclusion Page.
