Dear Students:

Since we spend a good amount of time using the Internet, I wanted to write all of you this letter as reference tool to use when surfing.

There are people who are working very hard at their computers to make $$$$$.  Sounds okay?  Well, it would be if it was for a good cause and if it was all legal.  These people are being very sneaky by tricking Internet users to view their sites.  These sites are pornography sites.  I know that we all talked about this before but a pornography site exploits people of all ages in an inappropriate way, in other words, they show too much of the body.

I know that none of my students are searching for these sites so this is how they can get you.  You may be researching a specific topic and viewing sites that you found.  Well, one of those sites may be used as an undercover site for a pornography site.  Or, a favorite site that you constantly visit all of a sudden isn’t the same site that you are use to seeing but a horrible pornography site.  These people who are trying to make $$$$$ can buy these sites and not have to change the name.

The way that these people make their $$$$ is by tricking as many innocent people as they can to look at their site so LET”S NOT LET THEM MAKE ANY THE MONEY!!!!!!!  I am attaching a quick reference guide that I want you to keep with you when using the Internet to help you get out of these “sticky” situations because once they got you they don’t want to let you go.

If you ever have any questions about this please come to me and ask.  It is not anything that you will get in trouble.  I want you to be a SMART Internet Surfer.

I am going to send a letter home so if this situation ever happens at home, your parents and guardians will be aware.

Have Fun Surfing!

WHAT I NEED TO DO IF I GET STUCK!

Guess what?  There is only one thing that you have to do to get yourself unstuck. . . . . . .

If a pornographic site appears when using the Internet, simply turn the monitor or screen off.  Don’t turn the computer off.  Tell me or the teacher who is in the room immediately and quietly.  The teacher will be able to decide if the site can be closed or if the computer has to be shut down.

It is important that you shut the screen off and tell the teacher immediately and not show all your classmates.  Otherwise, computer use may have to be done without Internet use.
