Plagiarism
Because of new advancements like the Internet and
the wide variety of Internet websites providing information to students,
plagiarism has become more of a problem for students and teachers at all
levels. Finally there are ways to fight
back. The following are suggested ideas
and websites to stop the plagiarism in your classroom once and for all!
Students cheat for many reasons…one of which
is more time management. As a teacher
make sure that you are helping your students to plan appropriately for large
tests/projects/papers.
There are many ways in which a student may plagiarize. It’s now possible to download entire papers from the Internet. Students may also visit sites that allow the purchase of papers directly delivered. Students often misquote or do not quote at all and take credit for thoughts and ideas that aren’t their own. As a teacher make sure that your students know exactly what plagiarism is and all of the ways that they may do it, accidental or not.
Students need to be aware of plagiarism consequences and the tremendous importance of citing their sources. Make sure that the rules and penalties are clear to all students before projects begin. Do not be lenient when it comes to plagiarism, the students are breaking the law and punishment is necessary.
