Instructional Modifications

Students with Hearing Impairments: 

  1. Create colorful and vibrant activities.
  2. Make sure that the directions are clearly written.
  3. Have the child work with a partner.
  4. Provide additional practice.
  5. Have the student use earphones if they have partial hearing.
  6. Provide a translator for the student.
  7. Adapt assignments so that the grammar usage is clear.
  8. Proofread multiple times.
  9. Use pictures and printed material to explain activities more clearly.
  10. Create activities where the students participate in a hand’s on activity and then use the Internet to reinforce learning.

Students with ADD and ADHD:

  1. Use concrete examples so the students are sure to understand.
  2. Preview the lesson before beginning.
  3. Highlight specific areas on the web by using bright colors or bold typing.
  4. Give specific time limits making sure to allow the student the amount of time needed.
  5. Allow the student to work in a resource room.
  6. Give written directions as well as verbal.
  7. Check and double check for accuracy and understanding.
  8. Relate instruction to personal experience.
  9. Give the student shorter assignments.
  10. Prioritize assignments and steps to take during those assignments.
