Games Elective
SLM 521 Summer 03
Brandi Adamy
I have an addictive personality so I was a little weary about trying this elective. I have a lot going on in my life and playing computer games for hours on end is not my top priority! But it sounds like fun and like a good stress reliever. Plus when my graduate classes are over, I will be able to use this elective and play until my heart is content!
I first went to games.yahoo.com and started to download a game called Lemonade Tycoon. Then I thought back to the games I own like SimCity and Fast Food Tycoon and thought of the countless hours I would spend playing them. You start at noon and you look up thinking 1 hour went past and it is 6:30 PM. So I changed my mind and decided to play Addiction Solitaire. I couldn’t quite figure out how it worked so I played around for a little on it then gave up. I couldn’t find where the directions were.
I decided to play Bingo. Here is where I had to sign up for the site. I chose branandshan2003 for my ID name and my dog’s name for the password. After the registration process I finally got to start playing Lightning Bingo. There were 155 other people in the room when I joined in. I had to join a game. There was also a chat room going on at the bottom of the page. There were 14 bingo cards to choose from. I chose one with 4 players on a card. The balls were called very quickly and it took me a minute to get used to it. I thought I got bingo but then realized when it told me I did not have bingo that we were not playing for regular bingo but in the shape of a heart. So I continued to play for awhile, never getting bingo! Oh well. You win some, you lose some!
Then I went back to the homepage and decided to play a word game called Spelldown. It took a little for it to load and I got impatient. Then it came up and I had to choose a room to go into. I chose the room Mysterious Malapropisms because it sounded interesting. Big vocabulary word, I like that! The game was very similar to Scrabble where you have several letters and you need to put them in order and make words. Each level you get more letters and have to spell bigger words. It will be a good game for my reading classes to try out. It became addicting, but luckily I had to toggle back to this paper and write about it. Games can be fun to play on the internet but beware! Make sure you have some time on your hands!
