Dear Parents,

At Belmont Elementary, technology is a very important instructional tool. This letter is to inform you of what MCPS and the staff at Belmont are doing to ensure your student’s Internet safety. Students will go to the computer lab a minimum of once per week in supervised visits. They may also be allowed to access the Internet in their classroom under the supervision of a staff member. Students will be only going to pre-approved Internet sites and will use appropriate educational search engines. Students are aware that they may not go to any site that is not directly related to the instructional activity. MCPS has put into place an Internet filter blocking access to inappropriate websites. Students are aware that if they are found on an inappropriate website they will immediately log off and can possibly loose their Internet privileges. Please read and sign the Safety Education Checklist with your student. As always, your ongoing cooperation and support makes Belmont a great place for students to learn. Safety Education Checklist

q I will not give out any personal information including my name, address, age, or telephone number.

q I will only go to approved websites.

q I will not go to chat rooms or bulletin board websites unless told to.

q If something happens online and I tell a teacher, I will not get in trouble and will not be told I can’t use the computer.

q I will not download any software unless I am told to.

q I will not stay on the computer for more than 45 minutes at a time.

q I know that my computer use is a privilege, not a right.

q I will only use the computer for school related use, not personal use.

q I know that I am responsible for what happens on the computer when I am using it.

I, _____________________, will herby agree to all of the above rules and regulations. I know that my privileges can be taken away from any staff member if I am doing anything inappropriately on the computer.
