Introduction:Have you ever wanted to travel to Miami, Florida?  Well, Now is your chance!  Prepare for a few “Bumps” along the way!

Tasks:        You have decided to take a 5 day, 4 night trip to the sun drenched destination. Read on to find out your tasks before you leave and the problems you will encounter once you get there.

Process: Your travel agent will arrange your transportation, accommodations, and meals, but first, you must decide what you would like to see and do while you are there.  Visit the following websites to plan your 5 day itinerary.  You should also check the weather report before you make your final decision.

1.     Check the weather:  Using the link below, check the weather.  Record your findings for Monday through Friday in your math journal in the form of a table.  You will need to include this information in your final presentation.

2.     Create your itinerary:  Using the links below, decide what you and your group members would like to do each day you are there.  Record your findings for Monday through Friday in your math journal in the form of a table.  You will need to include this information in your final presentation.

3.     Problems in Florida: Finally, the day has come!  You have all your things packed in two suitcases and are on a plane flying to the beach!  When you arrive at the airport, the baggage clerk informs you that your suitcases have been lost.  Oh, no!  Here you are in Florida for a week and all you have are the clothes on your back.  The airline manager has agreed to give you $500 to make up for your lost luggage.  Now you can purchase the items you need to have an enjoyable vacation.

4.     Make a list of things you need to buy.  Remember you have a limited amount of money.  You will also need to justify why you choose each item, so be sure to only choose the essential items.  You may have money leftover to purchase luxury items later.

5.     In the local newspaper, you see an ad for Sonny’s Surf City.  Sonny’s seems to sell everything you need.  Use the attached link and download the ad.  You will need to calculate how you will spend your money.  Remember, you will be there for 5 days and 4 nights.  Copy the chart into your math journal and complete it for the items bought at Sonny’s Surf City.

6.     Did you have sufficient money to purchase your items? In your journal, explain why or why not.  Be sure to include specific examples from the chart above.

7.     If you still have money left over, make a list of items you would like to buy.  These items do not have to be in Sonny’s ad.  Estimate the cost of these items and determine the amount of money you will be spending.  Use a chart to organize your information.
