Search Engines
Fall 2003
First Place- www.temoma.com
I found this site
to be very easy to use and I was able to minimize my search just by clicking on
the refined suggestions. This allows the
user to narrow down their search to more specific topics.
A close second- www.google.com
This search engine
is very FAST and easy to use. The Google
engine takes a lot of searching to find the exact topic you want, unless you
have the perfect key words. I found
myself having to look through up to 11 pages on sites.
News-
First Place- www.msnbc.com
This site is an
endless when it came to current events.
It is incredibly easy to use with extensive toolbars. You can be connected to new happening at that
time, even magazines and newspapers.
Second Place- www.cnn.com
Cnn.com is an
informational site full of news happening in the world. The main reason this is second is because
MSNBC’s site was more colorful and easier to use.
Kids Stuff-
First Place- www.yahooligans.com
The best part
about this site is the Ask Earl
section. Kids can ask questions about
homework and topics they do not understand.
They can also see other kids’ questions.
Also in this site are jokes, games, school subjects, polls, and news so
kids can understand what going on in the world.
Second Place- www.kaboose.com
This site is just
as entertaining and educational but you need to be a member. It does not cost anything but you do need to
join.
Education-
First Place- www.academicinfo.net
Academicinfo.net
has a lot of clicking but it is worth it at the end. You narrow your search by clicking on topics
and not by using keywords.
Second Place- www.infomine.com
A piece of advice,
do not look for the specific subject area first. Go to “Instructional Resources:k-12” then
find your subject area. This will save
you a lot of time.
Travel-
First Place- www.travel.com
This site does not
always give to the best deals but they have a great forum for you to ask
questions and give advice to others looking to travel. Travel.com deals with worldwide travel.
Second Place- www.expedia.com
Expedia offers a
create your own trip package. It also
lets you check out interests and advice from the site.
