General Search Tips
1. Limited Keyword Search- place quotes around two or more keywords and separate them with the word and to gain search results on two keywords.
*Example: “Tension” and “Compression”
This type of search will return results for both tension and compression.
2. Category Search- use a category search to help find your item related to the content you are studying.

*Example:
This type of search will return results containing websites related only to science and math. You can select a website pertaining to the subject matter you wish to investigate. Then you can limit your search to a specific keyword.
*Example: www.kidsclick.org

This type of search will allow you to select a subject from a list of words that start with the letter of your choice.
4. Spelling Tips- Enter the correct spelling of the keyword you wish to research. If you make a mistake, some search engines have an online dictionary. Use this to locate the correct spelling of your word.
*Example: Click the check the dictionary spelling and then click the back button to return to the website. If the search engine site you are using does not have a dictionary link, then open www.dictionary.com to check your spelling.

5. Select Image Filetype- to
select a certain filetype, type the keyword or subject you are searching, a
colon, and then the filetype (jpg or gif).
Remember to place quotes around your search item.
*Example: “Sun:jpg”
This type of search will return picture files as type jpeg. These files are easily used to transfer and insert into other files.
6. Select Image Specifications- to select the filesize, color, domain, or to limit results, select the advance image search. Select you selection from the drop down menu.

This type of search will return results containing only small pictures with a jpeg file type. Therefore, you will not have to spend your time resizing pictures to fit your paper. You will also not print any color images. Remember, printing images is not allowed, unless otherwise noted.
