Internet Safety Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your child will use the internet for school assignments related to the MCPS Curriculum. Resnik Elementary School expects all students to use the internet wisely, under certain safety regulations. These regulations include using your username and password to log on to all computers. No student is permitted to print material or access a website, not approved by the teacher. Any misuse of the system could result in disciplinary action.

As a teacher there are many precautions I take to ensure your child has a safe, productive online experience. Students are given a specific task and must complete that task within a given time limit. Students are not permitted to go to any websites not approved on my website list. These websites were selected because they are child-friendly and have the least amount of pop-up/unwanted ads. Student computers are easily visible by the teacher at all times. Computer rules are posted by each computer and should be followed at all times. Any student that disregards any of the posted rules or the directions of an assignment is subject to disciplinary action. Please read the attached checklist and sign the checklist with your child. By signing the checklist, you agree to all items stated and give consent for your child to access the computer. Thank you for your support and cooperation with this matter.

Internet Safety Checklist

I, _____________________________, student, agree to follow all of the rules and regulations stated on the checklist.

1. I will only access sites on the website list provided by my teacher.

2. I understand that I have limited time available on the computer and will use my time wisely to complete my assignment.

3. Printing is allowed by teacher permission only. I will print only if I have asked my teacher. I am allowed only 1 black and white copy of my work, unless otherwise stated.

4. If an unwanted ad pops up or if someone contacts me on the internet, I will notify the teacher.

5. I will not chat with anyone on the computer. If someone contacts me, I will notify my teacher.

6. I will not use the internet to commit any internet crimes.

7. If I damage a school computer, my parents are responsible to pay for the damages.

8. I will never give my personal information including my name, address, phone number, or school name to anyone on the computer.

I have read the checklist with __________________________________. I agree that my son/daughter may use the internet under the safety precautions provided. I also understand that any misuse of the computer by my son/daughter may result in denied computer access or suspension.
