Step One

 

In this web dropIn you will learn how to make a table of values for a linear function.  First go to the unitedstreaming website and watch the five segments on constructing a table of values for a linear function.

 

When you get to the login menu you will need to type in the user and password.  If you have forgotten what to login, you can ask me or the media specialist the words needed for user and password.

 

Once you login in you will need to look up the right topic. Under the subject menu choose mathematics. Under the topic menu choose algebra.  Click on go.  Then choose Operation Algebra: Using Tables to Graph Equations.

Step Two

 

After visting the unitedstreaming website go to the simple graph site and graph the line y =  2x + 3   using the graphing utility.

Step Three

 

Finally use your TI – 83 or TI –83 plus graphing calculator to construct a table of values.

 

Select y =

 

Type in the equation y = 2x + 3

 

Select [2nd] [window]  under the table setup menu select Independent as ask and dependent as auto.

 

Select [2nd] [graph] to go to table of values.  Type in the same values x values as the video - -5, -4, -3. –2. –1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

 

You should have the same y values that the video displayed.

 

 

Step Four

 

After completing all three exercises, write a paragraph describing how to use a table of values to graph a line.

 Include in your paragraph how many points are needed to determine a line.

What pattern did you observe in the table of values for the equation y=2x+3. 

What is the significance of this pattern? 

What significance does the three have in the equation y = 2x + 3?
