When this list was first
started, the idea was for it to be “online activities.” As I went on I decided to separate my list into
different sections with online activities/centers for different subjects and
general online activities for kids.
General
Activities/Centers:
FunBrain.com – This page provides a wide variety of online games for
children. The main focus is math and
language games, in which grade level and skill level can be easily selected and
changed. – www.funbrain.com – visited
Fun School.com – This page has a variety of games
available, sorted by grade level. While
the actual games take some time to load, there is another activity/game for the
kids to do while waiting. The games are
well worth it, with great graphics and very applicable skills. – www.funschool.com – visited
Education 4 Kids - this page contains games/activities for
math, social studies, language, and science.
There are a wide variety of skill level games, based mostly for the
primary grades. The games are easy to
load and very friendly when student give an incorrect answer. The games can be changed and altered to meet
the needs of the students (change skill level, if the game is timed or not, and
if a score is kept. – www.edu4kids.com – visited
KidsHub.org – here is another site that provides a variety
of educational games for kids. One of
the nicest things about this site is that as you click on the game you want to
play, you are told what grade level the game will best fit. www.kidshub.org/kids/kids.cfm - visited
Sunshine Online – I found this site originally because it
has a game where kids match community workers with their job and their
tools. After playing around awhile, I
found that this site offers a wide variety of writing and math games as
well. The only down fall is that the
site is not based in the
Education Place – this site provides games for reading,
math and social studies. The games are
easy to use and fun. There are only a
few games for each subject area, but they’re worth the visit. www.eduplace.com/edugames.html

Dosiety.com – this site claims to have “fun games and exciting exercises”
and I would have to agree. It provides
a wide variety of math and language arts game, designed for students to do
independently (not to mention it’s cute because of all the games and
graphics!). The activities are divided
into grade level appropriate groupings and then by topic, it’s great! www.dosiety.com

Reading
Activities:
Teaching Treasures – this site is great once you scroll
through all the membership offers and advertisements. The reading activities were especially good, starting with “baby”
words and getting harder. http://teachingtreasures.com.au/ - visited
Plaidlibs – this page allows students to make their
own Mad-lib. They choose a story,
listed by title, and then fill in the nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs to
create the funny story. www.billsgames.com/plaidlibs/ -
visited
Starfall – this page is excellent for students who are early emergent
and advanced emergent readers! The
activities are a lot of fun and easy to use.
If a kid gets stuck on a word, they can click it and the activity sounds
it out and then says the word for the kid.
www.starfall.com – visited
PBS Kids – this site belongs to PBS, the
station. If you just go to the PBS Kids
main page, you see a whole listing of books/shows that are sponsored by
PBS. These links, like the Berenstein
Bears, take you to non-educational games.
To get to the reading activities, you have to click on stories. On the stories page, the students can choose
a story and read at their own pace. If
they get stuck on a word, just click and it’s read to you. http://pbskids.org/stories.html - visited
Math
Activities:
APlus Math – this offers a different approach to basic facts. There are bingo games, hidden pictures and
concentration that all help kids practice their basic facts. www.aplusmath.com
– visited
AAA Math
– this site offers thousands of great activities, divided by grade level and
then by topic. Each page has activities
dealing with a basic skill, an explanation of the skill, and challenge
problems. http://aaamath.com – visited
King’s List of Online Math
Activities – this is a
great site with tons of activities.
There are activities for all ages, from basic skills to
pre-algebra. When you click on the math
topic, it pulls out a list of activities to choose from. www.k111.k12.il.us/king/math.htm

Online Math Activities for Kids -
Base Ten Count – this is a
great site for kids who are just starting to figure out how numbers work. Kids work on a base ten mat, putting ones
together to make tens, and solving problems.

Saxon Publishers – this site goes along with the Saxon
program, but it’s still a fantastic site for online math, just ignore the
suggested lesson that each activity should follow. This site is great for graphing, basic facts and reading venn
diagrams. www.saxonpublishers.com/activities/index.jsp
- visited
National Library of Virtual
Manipulatives for Interactive Mathematics – this site offers the same kind of manipulatives that a
student might use at their desks. It’s
especially good for place value. Kids put
together ones to make tens and solve basic fact problems. The difficulty of the problems increases
with each correctly answered problem.
This site can also be used to solve problems that teachers create. http://matti.usu.edu/nlvm/nav/vlibrary.html

Science
Activities:
Butterflies
& Bugs – this site
provides online games & puzzles, printable activities, and craft ideas all
dealing with butterflies. There are
also great, informational pictures available on this site as well. www.billybear4kids.com/butterfly/flutter-fun.html

Butterflies: On The
Wings of Freedom – this
site is great just because it answers any possible question that kids may have
about butterflies. It is very kid
friendly and easy to navigate. You
can’t go directly to the butterfly information, you have to agree to the
“conditions” first, but they’re just saying it’s a kid friendly site. http://library.thinkquest.org/27968/kids_intro.shtml-

Social
Studies Activities:
BLS Career Info – in 2nd grade our main social
studies focus is communities. This site
allows kids to think about what they like to do in school, and then after
selecting their favorite subjects, see some careers that follow those
lines. Then they can click on a link
that describes the career (community worker).

Ben’s Guide to US
Government for Kids – this
is another great communities web site.
Here, you click on a building in a virtual community and it gives you a
brief description of who works there and what they do. http://bensguide.gpo.gov/k-2/neighborhood/index.html
