"Integrating Technology into Materials of Instruction"

Below you will find descriptions of each learning module. Complete directions for each module can be found in the Course Documents section of BlackBoard.
Module 1

Standards and Best Practices for Technology Integration

  1. Read the ISTE "Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for All Teachers" http://cnets.iste.org/teachers/t_stands.html
  2. Complete an online self-analysis of your current instructional practices as they relate to technology standards. Print out the (5 points)

  3. Examine current research on teaching and learning with technology, web links to be determined, participate in discussion group related to topic.
  4. Examine models of best practices for technology integration with curriculum, web links to be determined. Prepare a preliminary plan for technology integration for a unit of your choice. (5 points)

Module 2

 

Internet Dos and Don'ts and other Important Stuff

  1. Acquire copy of your school and district Acceptable Use Policy for Technology, and write a summary of the policy in language which your students can understand. (5 points)
  2. Read "Reading for Information Using the Internet", http://wwwfac.wmdc.edu/slm/student/521mc/sandridgep/dropin4.html
    Prepare and teach a brief lesson plan using the reading strategies. Submit your lesson plan (5 points). Participate in discussion group related to the topic.
Module 3

Creating 'StartPages' using Microsoft Word

  2. Complete activity on Evaluating Websites" http://wwwfac.wmdc.edu/slm/student/521mc/sandridgep/maineval.htm
    Participate in discussion group related to topic.
  3. Read about how to create a startpage Using Microsoft Word. (links to follow)
  4. Identify appropriate websites for students on the topic of your choice and create a startpage with these links. (10 points)
Module 4

Create a Virtual Tour using PowerPoint

  1. View virtual tour example: http://wwwfac.wmdc.edu/slm/student/521mc/sandridgep/527index.htm Participate in discussion group on topic.
  2. Read how to create a basic PowerPoint Presentation. (links to follow)
  3. Read about copyright issues of using images and sounds from the Internet. http://www.education-world.com/a_curr/curr280d.shtml
  4. Prepare a virtual tour on the topic of your choice. Prepare a lesson which incorporates your virtual tour. Include justification for using images/sounds using knowledge gleaned from copyright information. (20 points).
Module 5

Facilitating Student Use of PowerPoint

  1. Create a template for a student multimedia presentation. Create a lesson which describes how you will use the template with your students. (20 points)
  2. Look at examples of rubrics which incorporate technology into curriculum content. (web links to follow) Participate in discussion group on topic.
  3. Create a rubric for the multimedia presentation. (5 points)
Module 6

Using Excel to Collect and Analyze Data

  1. Read about Microsoft Excel (web links to follow)
  2. Participate in discussion group about the topic.
  3. Use Excel to create a spreadsheet using sample data. Create a chart using the data. Insert the chart into a Word document and complete a written analysis of the data. (15 points)
