Spybot (Windows Only)


Install Spybot to remove malware from your computer (Windows only)

Click here to download Spybot.
Save it to your desktop, and launch the installation file when the download completes. Follow the onscreen instructions. During the installation process you will be asked if you would like any sort of permanent spyware protection. Deselect Use Internet Explorer Protection (SDHelper)

Running Spybot for the first time:

  1. When you run Spybot for the first time, you will be presented with two warning messages. Press OK .
  2. The Spybot-S&D Wizard should appear, with onscreen instructions asking you to backup your Registry.
    Note: The registry contains all of the current settings for your computer, and is often exploited by spyware companies. We recommend you allow Spybot to make a backup at this time.
  3. When the backup process has completed, click Next on the Wizard screen.
  4. The next step in the Wizard will be to check for Spybot updates. Click the Search for Updates button. After a brief moment, you may notice the Download all available updates button has become clickable. If so, click it and allow Spybot to update itself.
  5. When the updates have completed, click Next on the Wizard screen.
  6. When asked to immunize your system, click Next again.
  7. If you would like to take the Spybot tutorial, click the appropriate button in the Wizard at this time. Otherwise, select Start using the program and follow the instructions below.

Running Spybot normally:

  1. At the main Spybot screen, click on the Search for Updates icon.
  2. Once the updates are done installing, click Finish .
  3. If any updates are listed, select the Download Updates icon , and allow them to install.
  4. Select the Search and Destroy icon on the left
  5. Select Check for Problems
  6. When the scan completes, make sure all of the items Spybot found are checked
  7. Click Fix Selected Problems , and Spybot will inform you when they are removed.

In order to insure complete removal of all objects, we recommend running Spybot, restarting your computer, then running Spybot again until Syybot notifies you that your system is clean.
