Faculty: Professor Daniel Rees, Ph.D., Catholic University; Assistant Professor Catherine Orzolek-Kronner, Ph.D., Smith College for Social Work; Visiting Instructor James Corbin, MSW Temple University; Adjunct Faculty: Barbara Hughes Leasure, MA Edinboro State University.
McDaniel's social work program is one of only two programs at private colleges in Maryland accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Graduates of the program are eligible for licensing as baccalaureate social workers in Maryland and in other states where a license is required, and also receive a year's advanced standing in most graduate schools of social work. The college catalogue includes the requirements of the social work major. About 75 percent of all recent graduates are employed in social work or related human service jobs. Many also pursue graduate study at such institutions as the University of Maryland School of Social Work, Columbia University, New York University, and Catholic University.
Many social work majors choose a dual major in Spanish, an advantage when seeking employment, as many clients in social agencies are Spanish speaking. A minor in Spanish with an emphasis on conversation is also useful. McDaniel College offers a dual major in Social Work and Political Science recommended to students interested in public policy and social action.
