Instructional Modification for Computer Activity

 

Hard of Hearing:

1)   Be prepared with instructions typed out by the computer. Both on paper and on screen.

2)   Be sure student understands each individual step.

3)   Go over steps with student using gestures and examples.

4)   Break steps down into smaller simpler tasks to make the amount of information to follow limited.

5)   Diagrams and pictures may be helpful for a student to understand more clearly.

6)   Possibly do activity in partners so another student can assist.

7)   Provide a template of the activity if possible.

8)   Make sure student is able to use keyboard and mouse.

9)   Turn up bass if activity includes sound and put foot on the bass box so they can feel vibrations.

10)        Be patient and allow them to work at their own pace.

 

 

Visually impaired:

1)   Provide instructions on an easy to see surface with bolder and bigger letters.

2)   Provide hands on activity before computer activity so they may be more educated in area.

3)   Read instructions aloud until student understands the activity.

4)   Provide partner to assist student.

5)   Use cues such as color, shape, size, and direction.

6)   Use clear fonts and colors on activity to make it visually easier for student.

7)   Keep student in a silent area of classroom so he/she may hear clearly.

8)   Provide some audio during activity to keep students interest in activity.

9)   Provide consistent encouragement and assistance.

10)        Include hands on activity while completing computer activity.
