Reflection:
Because I value staying abreast of issues and research, shaping movements that affect my profession, and taking professional leadership, I strongly support my professional organizations and have participated in associated conferences several times. As a graduate student of Secondary English Education, I joined the National Council of teachers of English (NCTE) and attended annual conferences in Atlanta and San Francisco. During the Summer of 2003, I traveled with a delegation to the annual conference of the International Federation of Teachers of English (IFTE) in Melbourne, Australia. There, I attended sessions and took note of trends in the international community of English education. At the NCTE conference that year, I presented my findings with a partner. The attached artifact is a reproduction of some of the program pages. (My presentation is the last one on the second page.)
Currently, as a graduate student of Library Media, I joined the American Library Association. Although I will not be able to attend this year's conference in New Orleans, I intend to participate more fully in this organization upon completion of my degree program. When I work as a media specialist, I will be highly involved with the ALA, MEMO, MICCA, and my local county professional development programming in order to remain educationally innovative, socially mindful, and professionally aware.
