Letter to the Principal

Reflection

I found a section on Bobby Kennedy in an old book about the "leaders of tomorrow." That seemed logical, but when I read the closing paragraph, I knew that book had to be weeded out. Not only did it not mention his death in 1968, it actually predicted the 1972 presidential election in which we would be sure to see Bobby Kennedy's name on the ballot! This was just one example of a book that I discovered while conducting an evaluation of the biography section. With daily access to the collection, I am in the perfect position to "advocate for ongoing adminstrative support for library media program and policies." Once I completed my formal evaluation, I was able to compose a letter to the principal explaining my findings and requesting additional funds to begin to rectify the situation. Even if additional money is not immediately available, it is still important to make the school's administration aware of the status and needs of the media center. Perhaps one day we'll find a school library media specialist's name listed as a leader of tomorrow!
