Using the internet
with your students can offer many beneficial and educational experiences. Nonetheless, the internet can also be a
rather dangerous place, especially for children. When using the internet with students it
is important to communicate your expectations about appropriate use as well as
make parents aware of how you use the internet in the classroom to support
curriculum instruction. Below are
two links that will help you, the classroom teacher, address the topic of
safety on the web with both students and parents.
Student
Agreement Letter/Checklist – Here you will find a letter you can
print off to review with your students about how to safely use the
internet. Be sure to have both the
student and parent sign the letter, especially if the student is a minor.
Parent Letter – Here is a letter that
indicates the school system’s approach as well as a teacher’s
approach to using the internet safely.
A good time to review your policy on using the internet would be at Back
to School Night, so you are able to directly communicate to the parents so that
they better understand and can ask any questions.
